Hooray! Sustainable Foods on the Table at National Parks

26 Jul 2007

Xanterra, the concessionaire that manages the visitor facilities in Yellowstone and over 20 other national parks is making a commitment to reduce waste going off to the landfills, but more importantly, to serve organic, local, fair trade, and sustainably produced foods at their facilities. As any warming wonk knows, shipping food all over hell & back is a major contributor to nasty gasses, so this is fantastic news. Plus, allowing visitors enjoy to enjoy local delicacies such as bison brats and freshly-caught whitefish can only enhance a visit.

In other wonderful green park news, the Glacier NP shuttles are up & running, and proving to be extremely popular, just as those in Zion. Edward Abbey, though he would probably still have something snarky to say about it, is once again being proven the Prophet of the Parks.
