Good News! Two new wilderness areas!
23 Jan 2006
Hard to believe any environmental good could come out of Washington these days, but amazingly, two wilderness study areas have emerged from their regulatory limbo to become real live wildernesses. Thanks, Congress! Thanks, Mr. President! Thanks, Blue Fairy!
The lucky areas are the Ojito Wilderness in New Mexico, which appears to be a real jewel. The other is the Cedar Mountains in Utah, which seems to have passed muster for more complex political purposes (hindering the Goshutes from opening a nuclear waste repository on their adjacent tribal lands), but is nice nonetheless. Both are relatively close to booming urban areas (Salt Lake, Albuquerque). Any reason to celebrate is a good one!
